Autumn - take advantage of each beautiful day!

It's been a busy summer and early fall.

Those of you that joined us at our 2009 Driving Experience will attest to the thrill of exercising your vehicle on a beautiful road course. For those that couldn't, we've provided a review of the event, along with a gallery of images and a video produced by Sharp magazine - view at your own risk!
Our Fall Sampling event was a sell out again for 2009.

What an extraordinary day!

As we assembled in the early morning, DreamFleet's paddock area began to take shape; a variety of performance BMWs and Audis; a stunning 2010 Audi R8 5.2 (V10) to be put through it's paces by Sharp magazine; and Porsche Canada's 2009 Porsche Cayman S and Boxster S (PDK) for review by Sympatico.ca's Autos editor.

Following driver sign-in over a light breakfast of coffee, muffins and fresh fruit; we were off to our Classroom session. Here our instructors briefed us on track rules/protocol and transferred as much driving theory as possible into our skulls in preparation for the day. For the initial track session, first timers played follow the leader; an instructor driven car in front and participant car behind; a very effective way to learn the line on this challenging course. Experienced drivers headed out solo or with an instructor along to coach.

For the balance of the sessions, participants drove with their personal instructor as co-pilot, progressively developing their driving skill and learning the course; those more experienced exercised their driving skill solo with instructors available as required to help polish their skill.

Between track sessions in the morning, we ran an autocross competition for a little fun. The course proved a bit complicated for a some, but after a few runs everyone was able to navigate it with various levels of competence - our winner took home a gift card and DreamFleet cap!

Over a barbeque lunch of Greek souvlaki and Cajun beef, we shared our experiences with colleagues and instructors and checked out the automotive engineering on the paddock.

The afternoon weather offered up periods of rain, which was a blessing in that we could experience the track under different conditions; in the wet we reached our limits at lower speeds, accelerating our learning. Private use of the track in our sessions was a real treat; providing lots of learning latitude and very little congestion for us over Calabogie's 5km serpentine course.

As a bonus, Porsche Canada was there with a pair of vehicles and multiple Porsche Cup champion driver to chaperone Sympatico.ca's Autos editor around the track. My personal highlight was the vibrant red Audi R8 5.2 (V10), and observing Sharp magazine's on/off track videotography. A genuine thrill to be driving the track in this fine company.
The 2009 Driving Experience is a tough act to follow!

Many thanks to Calabogie Motorsports Park and to our Instructors.

This vehicle is amazing. You can race it on the track, putting most vehicles with racing legacy to shame, yet is equally at home as your daily driver or long distance cruiser. It is extremely competent in all aspects; it exudes utter confidence whilst being completely civilized, wrapped in a beautifully executed piece of design.

I had the opportunity to experience the 'base' R8 4.2 (420hp V8) a little over a year ago during Audi's R8 launch campaign. Needless to say, I was very impressed with the vehicle both dynamically and visually. This memory, and the back to back experience of the 2010 R8 5.2 (525hp V10) and an Audi S4 (340hp V8) at Calabogie Motorsports Park this summer leaves me astounded with how remarkably quick the R8 5.2 is, how it grips in the corners, wet or dry, and how unflappable its balance. For perspective; the 340hp S4 is powerful; with plenty of grunt at low revs and sweet in the upper reaches; refined and extremely satisfying to drive, but feels like a basic 'commuter' by comparison.

The R8 5.2 is the perfect exotic, without having to compromise - so long as you have $180,000 to spare.
Audi are truly warranted in their campaign "Rethink your list of Dream Cars".
