Germany - the birthplace of the automobile, is home to many of the great automobiles of the world; Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Not only are these brands instantly associated with engineering greatness but their engineering prowess now also underlies; Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Maybach and Rolls-Royce. There's arguably no country in the world that has had a greater impact on the automobile than Germany. What better than to tour the facilities of these great Marques! Audi, BMW, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz all host tours of their manufacturing facilities at a reasonable cost, however they need to be booked in advance. Click on the respective manufacturer names for more information on booking a tour. Porsche is the latest of these manufacturers to invest in new visit facilities; the avant-garde Porsche Museum at Zuffenhausen is expected to open in the later half of 2008, finally doing their rich history justice. Fortunately all these facilities are located in the Southern region of Germany between Stuttgart and Munich. Tours of BMW's facility in Munich; as DreamFleet did this spring; begin at 'BMW Welt', a stunning facility reflective of the BMW brand (photo below). While in Germany, take advantage of the opportunity to drive the famed Autobahns; although generally congested, there are stretches that allow for unlimited-speed driving.
